Law Students

I started law school when my kids were 3 months old, and 2 years old. I wouldn’t have made it through without help from amazing mentors so I want to give back to future lawyers.

On this page you’ll find basically everything I used to pass law school and the bar. My own notes in law school, as well as other material I either made, used, or personalized.

A few reasons why you might find my notes helpful:

  • I was the top of my class in 1L and graduated with honors
  • My contracts essay was chosen by the California Bar as a model answer. I studied for contracts entirely with my notes
  • I passed the California bar on my first try in February of 2019 (pass rate of 31%)
  • Many students have used my notes to study for their classes, and the bar

These notes were an absolute lifesaver. I used them for the bar and went back to them even after I started work because they’re condensed enough that they can act as a quick refresher and still give me the basics of what I need to know. I can only wish I had notes this good when I was in law school. I think that if I had to choose materials to make sure I knew everything I needed to know for a lawschool exam, these would be it. Obviously, they’re not a textbook, but if you know the stuff on these notes, I think you should be in good shape.

I only took notes from scratch for my first 3 classes, as such, these are probably the most thorough:

My Contracts Outline

My Torts Outline

My Criminal Law Notes

After the first classes I learned how to study for law school and started using supplements and just taking notes from those:

Corporations

Civil Procedure

Constitutional Law

Evidence

Real Property

Wills

Trusts

One Pages are great for memorizing. I printed them out double-sided on a single sheet of paper then laminated them and used them like giant flashcards.

I’ve had many people ask me how I studied for the bar so I prepared the following documents. I basically watched the Barbri lecture videos then got off Barbri and self studied. I also took a detailed journal of the last half of my study period. It was probably the most miserable period of my life and I’m really glad I’ll never have to do it again. I hope this page will make that period a little less stressful for you.

Other resources I used and recommend:

Professor Fleming’s Essay Writing Workshop
I took his course in person in 1L and I went from being completely confused about how to write a law school essay, to being the top of my class. It was definitely thanks to Professor Fleming. He’s great.

Full disclosure, I was a rep during law school… but only because I loved the course. I do not get paid if you take any of his material.

Baressays.com
Awesome site to look at previous bar essay answers and their official scores from examiners. I used this site to read many essays and analyze how they score. It’s also great to have access to a huge bank of official essay questions.

I paid for my first year of baressays but then later was given complimentary access for a couple more years. I don’t get paid if you sign up.

Reddit r/lawschool
Great community of law students and lawyers where you can find notes, ask questions, complain. I found it helpful during law school, or at least fun to browse through once in a while.

Law school Discord
I studied from the bar in another country by myself and it was an incredibly isolating experience so this Discord that I discovered right before the bar was an absolute lifesaver filled with people going through the same thing. This Discord is the reason why I have this page, because many of the then law students on the server found my notes helpful. It’s a great place to get instant feedback or general camaraderie from others going through bar hell.

Lastly, I want to thank Rima, Ellisa, Michelle, & Shelli for your help, guidance, notes, and everything else that got me through my law school journey.

Good luck everyone! You can do this.

It should go without saying that all of the notes on this page may or may not be accurate, especially as time goes on. They are also for the California Bar. Your state laws may vary. I make no representations as to the accuracy or usefulness of the content.
